49 Bespoke Inc. (formerly RGK Wheelchairs, Inc.) Company Profile

49_BSPK_neg_JPG.jpg49 Bespoke Inc. (formerly RGK Wheelchairs, Inc.) is a privately owned company founded in 2002 to market and promote BESPOKE (custom Made) RGK Wheelchairs in North America. It has grown to distribute VARILITE ® cushions, backs, PAL Lateral Supports, Belts and Harnesses in Canada along with Ki Mobility and Kenda products. We also carry a host of other products for same day shipping like Spinergy, Glance, X-Core, Sun Wheels, Topolino, Schwalbe Tires, Frog Leg Products, all hand rims including Blax, titanium, dual grip, natural fit, flex rims, etc.

The former company, RGK Wheelchairs, Inc., was founded by Russel Simms, Greg Eden, and Reg McClellan. In September 2009 a share purchase agreement was signed making Reg McClellan the sole owner of the company with the North American distribution and manufacturing rights to RGK Wheelchairs. The name was changed to reflect the fact that the company had evolved to distribute other products and required a generic name, hence the birth of 49 Bespoke Inc.

"We chose to use the numbers 4 and 9 with the English term for custom made (Bespoke) and to add the legal incorporated requirement. The significance of the 4 and 9 relate to Reg McClellan’s privilege to have worn the number 4 for over 20 years on the men’s national wheelchair basketball team and an honor that his partner, Chantal Benoit shares having wore the number 9 on the women’s national team for 20 plus years."

RGK Wheelchairs in the UK - Manufacturing Facility

Russel Simms and Greg Eden own RGK Wheelchairs in the United Kingdom, a company that has grown organically since their inception in 1989 with 10% average growth for the first seven years, then 20-25% in last few years. This growth is in productivity and revenue, and their plans are to continue with a 25% target.

RGK owns a 30,000 sq ft plus site in the West Midlands of England, employ 35-45 people and manage the business in three departments - Engineering, Operations, and Commercial.

RGK has a range of models with most any modification available.

VARILITE® (A Division of Cascade Designs)

Cascade Designs was founded in the early 1970's by two Boeing Engineers who were avid outdoor enthusiasts. Since the beginning, they have been the premier manufacturer of self-inflating mattresses. Outdoor enthusiasts love the simplicity, performance and low maintenance of the Therm-a-Rest mattress line.

In the 1980's, a wheelchair user asked if Cascade Designs could make a self-inflating wheelchair cushion. They realized that the same air and foam technology that produced a popular outdoor mattress could also be used to make a lightweight, comfortable, pressure reducing cushion.

Thousands of hours of research and many prototypes later, the Modular cushion was introduced and the VARILITE®  brand was born! Since then, VARILITE®  has grown into a family of seating and back systems, belts and harnesses, and accessories.

Today, VARILITE®  products are sold in the United States, Canada (distributed by 49 Bespoke Inc.) and many other countries throughout the world.
